Our Story

“As a family run business, we are involved in every step from the grape to the glass.”

Orest and Robyn Skraha, and their son Brad and his wife Kirsten are third and fourth generation farmers who are passionate about farming and Wild Orchid Wines.

The Wild Orchid story first began in 1997 when we planted our first block of vines as a diversification from our traditional sheep and wool farming business. The name of our wines comes from the abundant wild orchids that grow in the bush reserve next to the vineyard.

From that first block, our vineyard has grown to its current size of 45 acres.  Owner Robyn Skraha has promised it won’t get any bigger,

“The vineyard was meant to fill in the quiet times of the sheep, but now the sheep fit in during the quiet times of the vineyard!”

Our first wine was a 2002 Merlot developed especially for a Canadian export market. And although we no longer export to our continental neighbours, we are proud of the fantastic range of wines that we have developed since. Our Reserve Range was launched in 2012 to complement the lifestyle Wild Orchid range.

As the size of the vineyard grew, so has our learning curve and our gradual experience in growing the fruit, making the wine and getting creative with the marketing. We are always learning new things but maintain our professional approach which has enabled us to produce premium quality, award winning wines.

We are involved in every step from the grape to the glass, which means a lot of time on the road – delivering fruit to the winery, transporting wine, providing in-store tastings and setting up stalls at field days which act as our cellar door.

We believe in the strength of rural communities and providing the best service we can.
